Tapestry Arts 2009 in Downtown San Jose – Labor Day Weekend

August 17th, 2009 . by admin

The Tapestry Arts festival is being held again this Labor Day weekend in downtown San Jose. This festival was started as part of the country bicentennial celebration and has been running every year since 1976 (although it was known for years as the Tapestry In Talent). The three-day festival is one of the oldest of the festivals that are staged by local cities and is popular with locals and tourists alike. In 2008 Tapestry Arts drew 150,000 visitors. Tapestry Arts celebrates visual and performing arts and proceeds from the festival support arts education programs in local elementary schools.

Tapestry Arts features food booths and live entertainment in a variety of styles from Rock and Jazz to Blues and Classical.

Sunday, September 6, 2009  at 12:45 PM in Plaza de Cesar Chavez Park the festival will host the 1st annual Trash art fashion show & contest featuring fashion created using trash and recycled materials. This event will feature kids from ages 9 to 18 sporting fashions made from trash. The event is sponsored, aptly enough, by West Valley Collection and Recycling and Green Team of San Jose.

The Design for Living Home & Garden Show celebrates its 18th year as part of Tapestry Arts. The Design for Living is a commercial segment of the larger festival.  This eclectic indoor show features retailers and manufacturers of:

  • home improvement products
  • housewares / appliances
  • computers & software
  • personal accessories
  • furniture & lighting
  • sporting equipment
  • nutritional products

Tapestry Arts’ hours are 10:00 AM-6:00 PM Saturday & Sunday. 10:00 AM-5:00 PM Monday.
